Two mismatched security guards are thrown together to bust a smuggling operation.
Earl and Hank have only one thing in common: they're both L.A.P.D. rejects. One just got kicked out, the other can't even get in. After confronting each other on opposite sides of the law during a traffic stop that escalates out of control, these two luckless individuals end up partnered as lowly security guards. Despite being damned to the lowest rung of the law enforcement ladder, Earl and Hank uncover a sophisticated smuggling operation led by Nash and his band of thugs. When Earl and Hank get their hands on some hot property, they go on the run from, first the bad guys, then the L.A.P.D.–led by Lt. Washington and Detective McDuff. What these two unlikely partners do to law enforcement is a crime, but they just might save the day. That is, if they don't kill each other first.
Caught this on HBO last night. Martin Lawrence made me a fan when I saw Blue Streak. That was great. Since then I have only seen him in Black Night (turned off) and this National Security (gave this one a 4). Great California scenery but it doesn't work. The white guy co-star looks like a guy from a local bowling alley not a guy that is going to take down an international ring of thieves. Unless you are a die hard Lawrence fan I would wait to see this one on TBS or Comedy Channel and not lay out a rental fee. Like Martin says "Believe That!"
First of, this movie was alright and even hilarious at times…for the first 10 minutes. After that, this movie sunk faster than the Titanic.<br/><br/>I&#39;m not sure what the creators of this movie were smoking that made them think it was an action or crime movie, and the only crime was that this movie cost me $0 but cost me 20 minutes of my life. Yes, I stopped watching it. That is the proof of a good movie. I was not paying a dime to see it, and I stopped watching it. I would rather watch a squirrel scratch its back than have finished this movie. <br/><br/>The only funny part of this movie was watching Earl Montgomery (Martin Lawrence) was doing the police training exercise and when Earl called officer Hank Rafferty (Steve Zahn) a Nazi, and I&#39;m white. Besides that, nothing much for me. To each their own I guess, and this gets thrown into the same dumpster as Waynes World.
In the final analysis though, the only real thing being smuggled in National Security is unwitting patrons' admission fees.
